Le Ti' Punch Originel
A spirit-forward, deconstructed sour that truly celebrates the unique grassy, earthy notes of rhum blanc agricole. It's a simple pleasure, but don't let its ease fool you — it's profoundly satisfying.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Rhum blanc agricole
- 0.75 oz Demerara Syrup (2:1)
- 1 lime coin (rondelle)
Instructions
- Place the lime coin at the bottom of a rocks glass.
- Add the Demerara Syrup and gently press the lime coin with a muddler to express its oils and a touch of juice.
- Add the rhum blanc agricole.
- Add 2-3 large ice cubes and stir briefly to chill and combine. The beauty is in the minimal dilution and letting the spirit lead.
Glassware: Rocks glass
Garnish: Expressed lime coin (left in the drink)
History
The Ti' Punch, or 'Petit Punch,' is the unofficial drink of the French Caribbean islands like Martinique and Guadeloupe. Unlike a Daiquiri, it's often built directly in the glass, with the drinker controlling the amount of lime and syrup, making it a truly personal experience. This version leans into a slightly richer Demerara syrup to complement the bold agricole.
