History
This is a direct descendant of the original 'Whiskey Cocktail' from the 19th century, which eventually became known as the Old Fashioned. Swapping out a sugar cube for demerara syrup makes for a smoother, richer dissolve and adds a deep, molasses-like sweetness that complements the bourbon beautifully.
